Transferring a domain name is not hard at all, you can easily transfer a domain name to us on this page. However, you’ll have to follow a few important steps if you want to transfer your domain name to another registrar.
If you have a lock on your domain name it’s impossible to transfer it. Make sure your domain name has no lock before you try to transfer it. You can ask your domain registrar to remove the lock for you if you want. Also check the email address of the account you have the domain registered with. This is important, because with some domain name extensions they send you a verification email to verify that you want ‘turn off’ the lock on your domain name.
Transferring your domain name
Before you start make sure you have the following things:
- You have a domain name that belongs to you.
- You have no lock on your domain name.
- You have a domain transfer code, this is a code unique to your domain, sometimes also referred to as Epp code, Auth code or transfer token. You can find this code with your current registrar. If you have a domain registered with us, you can find the transfer code in the domain management panel in our client zone.
Domain name transfer is very similar with every domain registrar, in this tutorial we’re going to show you how to transfer a domain name to HostSonny. First go to the transfer domain page (link will open in new tab).
The image above is an example, click the ‘Add to Cart’ button if you’re done putting in your credentials, please make sure you put in the right authorization code with the right domain name.
You now come on a page where you can choose if you want to add hosting or want to change the name servers. If you already have a hosting plan with us, you don’t have to touch this area. Also, if you already have a hosting plan with us, don’t forget to configure addon domains and add the domain there as well. If you don’t know how to do that, please click here and read our addon domains tutorial.
If you have everything set, click ‘Continue’. You now come on the cart page where you can checkout. Checkout and you’re (almost) done. Keep a close eye on your emails, because with some domain name extensions, you’ll need to click on a verification link that is sent in a verification email. Click on the verification link in the email to verify that you want to transfer your domain to us.
Congratulations, you’ve successfully transferred your domain name! 🙂
